Fine Art Classes

Still Life Painting

A focused introduction to the classic genre of still life painting is explored in this course. Students learn to indicate simple form with a single light source using form lights and shadows, cast shadows, as well as warm and cool colors. Emphasis is placed on refining composition with cropping, overlapping and placement in the picture plane. This course begins using a limited palette and two or more objects. A full palette is introduced in creating glass, brass, copper and patterned objects. Brushes, painting surfaces, mediums and palette preparation are discussed.

Watercolor Painting

An exploration of basic techniques and materials used in watercolor painting is offered in this course. Emphasis on transparent application, flat brush, graded wash, dry brush, and wet-on-wet techniques. Various subjects will be explored including location painting.
